My top play and learning tip is always...follow their interests. If they like dinosaurs, do that. Dolls? Go for it. But what do you do when you've exhausted all of those ideas? Here are 5 more open-ended ideas.
1. Giant collage
Ikea do long paper like this but you could use the back of wrapping paper or several bits of paper stuck together. Either let your child create in their own way or, draw out letters or numbers and let them decorate them.
2. Cardboard nail painting
Draw around your hand and sketch out fingernails. Using paint or felt pens, allow your child to decorate them. They could also create their own beautiful Henna patterns.
3. Number hunt
Inside or outside, go for a hunt and see which numbers you can find. Letters, shapes and colours also work well.
4. Play-dough
Roll it around, build with it or stick things in it - the opportunities with play-dough are endless. Check out our Instagram or Pinterest (@everydayplayideas) for lots of different ideas.
5. Role play
Libraries, shops, building yards, superheroes, schools, you name it...you can play it. Gather whatever toys and resources you have and get into character.
